RHS STUDENTS TOUR RBS(December 16, 2015) Riverhead Building Supply's logo reads, "Build Smarter. Build Better." They have done exactly that themselves in their new facility at Enterprise Park in Calverton, the home of a massive set of warehouses and work areas. LED lights are used throughout the building to save on electricity, which is generated from solar panels on their rooftop and provide all their electricity. Huge ventilating units suck up any sawdust in the air, and it is recycled or resold. Much of the cutting, painting, sanding and varnishing is done in huge machines controlled by computers. All this and more was demonstrated and shared with Luke Ferland's Technology students in a tour given expertly by RBS Director of Manufacturing & Facility Management Kevin Goodale.

Donning headsets in order to block exterior noise and to hear Mr. Goodale's presentation, the students toured the Mill and had an opportunity to see how RBS employees assemble interior doors, fabricate the knives for their custom molding line and wide plank flooring. They also watched as windows were assembled and other custom millwork was performed. In addition, they learned about the organizational processes and how the employees stock and load their materials in the warehouses and on the trucks to be shipped to building sites and/or one of their other RBS locations on Long Island and Rhode Island.
The students also got to sit down with Tammy Luby, Director of HR, SPHR & SCP. She discussed with the students some of the essentials of job descriptions, employment expectations, filling out applications and the types of job opportunities available within their company. Topics also included pre-employment screening, drug and alcohol testing and tools for success. Executive Chairman Edgar Goodale, joined the students at Corporate Headquarters. The students toured various departments at HQ including Accounting, Marketing, IT, Purchasing, Estimating and others that support a business. The final tour was with Assistant Manager Judd Lincoln, who gave them a tour of the store, the design showroom and storage area.
"We truly enjoyed the visit from Mr. Ferland and the RHS students yesterday. It was so exciting to be able to share this opportunity with our local school district and community," shared Nancy Lauben from Training and Events, who joined the students on the tour.
