(June 2016) Each year the PTO and Librarian Brenda Tuttle bring in an author to spend the day with the students at the Aquebogue Elementary School. This year, author/illustrator Ralph Masiello was invited. What a lot of fun! This guy can do it all -- including keep students laughing, drawing and asking questions for hours!
Ralph Masiello resides in the state of Massachusetts where he lives with his daughters Alexa and Talia. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design (BFA, Illustration, 1985), Masiello has illustrated for magazines, newspapers and books, created posters and prints, and shown his fine art paintings in galleries throughout the world. He also makes original drawings on Converse sneakers for fun! (Read his unofficial bio for a hoot!) Beginning with The Icky Bug Alphabet Book in 1986, Masiello has become internationally known for the children’s books he’s written and illustrated. Since 1987, he has visited over 2,600 schools all over the world, inspiring children with his life story, humor, and art. In addition to sharing general information about making books, Mr. Masiello talked about his own education, stressing reading and library skills as they relate to the research and development of an accurately illustrated book. At their special luncheon, Masiello told the super writers, who won a pizza luncheon as a reward for their hard work and effort, about his dad, who worked hard his whole life and finally in his retirement got to try his hand at his first love -- drawing. "It makes me happy to be able to get up every day and do what I love best," shared Masiello. |
