Aquebogue Elementary School Celebrates Student Successes
Mr. Kent conducts assemblies about once a month to celebrate student behavior and achievement. This assembly celebrated the Summer Reading and Math Program, which was coordinated by Literacy Coach Vanessa Williams. Mr. Kent noted that over 200 students achieved the requirements of the program. (There are approximately 550 students at Aquebogue). In order to be recognized, students had to complete and log their work over the summer. K-2 students had to log at least 20 minutes of reading (5 days per week); 3rd graders had to log 25 minutes of reading; and 4th graders were expected to read 30 minutes or more five days a week.
Prior to the end of school, Aquebogue hosted a Book Swap, which provided K-2 students with 10 books; 3rd graders with 5-6 books; and 4th graders with at least one chapter book to read over the summer. In addition to logging their books and reading times. The students who were celebrated also completed Math packets and played math games over the summer. Way to go! |
