HS Graphic Arts ClassesThis full year course is designed to expose students to several different methods of creating electronic art. The computer will be used as a tool to create drawings, photo manipulations and commercial artwork. Previous computer experience is helpful, but not necessary. Each quarter, students will be expected to
complete six to ten pieces of computer-generated artwork. Students will earn one art credit upon successful completion of this full-year course. Digital Filmmaking has been added. |
HS Ceramics / Creative CraftsCeramics -- Hand building methods – coil, slab, pinch and block – will be practiced. The joining of clay bodies, techniques of underglazing and overglazing, and introduction to the potter’s wheel will be covered. / Crafts is a beginner level art course designed to offer the student a wide variety of mixed-media art experiences. Mediums such as printmaking, sculpture, fiber art, mosaics, and found object design will be explored in this course. Students who enjoy expressing themselves in a wide variety of art mediums should enroll in this course. This course satisfies the NYS Art/Music requirement.

Painting, Drawing, PhotographyThis is the foundation course for many of the course offerings in the art department. Students will make works of art that explore different kinds of subject matter, topics, themes and metaphors. Students will understand and use sensory elements, organiza-tional principles and expressive images to communicate their own ideas in works of art. A variety of art materials, processes, mediums, techniques and appropriate technologies will be used for creating and exhibiting visual art works. This course satisfies the NYS Art/Music graduation requirement. Photo II will be available in the 2017-2018 school year.

Studio in Art / Art Club Studio in Art is a full year course designed to expose students to many different methods of creating art. Students will work on Drawing, Painting, and Mixed Media projects. At the end of the year students will have produced a portfolio of their work. This course satisfies the New York State Graduation Requirement.
In Studio in Art students are encouraged to express themselves through as many materials and techniques as possible. Everyone is different therefore we will all think, act, and express our ideas differently. Individuality, creativity, uniqueness, taking risks and challenges are all qualities highly encouraged. Studio in Art is just the beginning of the vast array of avenues in art. Studio in Art class qualifies as a pre-requisite for many other art courses. Future courses include; Drawing & Painting, Ceramics, Creative Crafts 1 & 2, Computer Graphics 1 & 2, Photography 1 & 2, AP Studio, and AP Art History. |
